CarPlay is an Apple standard that enables a car radio or head unit to be a display and controller for an iOS device. CarPlay functionality is available on iPhone 5 and later models running iOS 7.1 and above. Android Auto is the equivalent of Carplay but for Android devices. Many latest car models support CarPlay and/or Android Auto, either through a USB connection or via a wireless connection, but many previous generation vehicles and even some current models do not have Apple CarPlay or Android Auto features.
